If you knew you could improve someone’s life by giving away something that no longer served you, you probably would, right?… the folks of Lynn Valley United definitely thought that sounded like a good idea and this week I was delighted to deliver almost 100 pairs  of eyeglasses (and 50 or so cases) to a member of the Lynn Valley Lions.
The glasses, which included regular and tinted prescription lenses as well as a half dozen specialty pairs for sport and medical use, were collected to decorate our Christmas tree. That’s right…our tree decorations were a little different this year, having a social justice component to the theme “Making Room for the Holy.” The eyeglasses represented “Seeing More Clearly” for Hope Sunday in the first week of Advent.
The Lynn Valley Lions collect about 1000 pairs of glasses each year from local optometrists and send them to be cleaned, repaired and, in some cases, reground to ensure precise and clear prescription lenses are available for distribution. It feels good to know one little act of kindness- recycling eyeglasses- can provide a brighter outlook for others someday. What a blessing it is to have connection in the community such as this.
The Lynn Valley Lions are a local chapter of an international club with a simple mission- to serve and help people. One of the programs they support is C.L.E.R.C. (Canadian Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center) that has, to date, provided over 2 million pairs of glasses to partner charities and healthcare volunteers in developing nations around the globe If you are interested in learning more about this extraordinary vision program, click here https://lvlions.com/vision/  and if you’re interested in learning more about the Lynn Valley Lions, you can find their website by clicking here.(hyperlink to https://lvlions.com/
