Right after our Lenten series on Awe where we considered the wonders of creation the Social Justice Team will be showing the movie Before the Flood on Earth Day April 22. This provides us time to think of what we can do to help to protect and care for the Awe that God has given us in His creation. It follows Leonardo DiCaprio on a three-year journey around the globe to witness firsthand the impacts of climate change. As a UN Messenger of Peace, DiCaprio meets with scientists, politicians, and activists to gain a comprehensive understanding of the challenges facing our planet and potential solutions to address them.
"Before The Flood," offers an engaging exploration into the world of climate change and its impact on our planet. The documentary combines a global perspective on the crisis with personal anecdotes and experiences, making the issue feel both enormous and deeply personal. From the melting ice in Greenland to smog-filled cities in China, the documentary paints a vivid and often unsettling picture of our planet’s deteriorating health.
The film was viewed more than 2 million times on the day following its release. Within weeks, it had been viewed by more than 60 million people, making it one of the most watched documentaries in history.
There will be time for discussion and reflection after the film.
