Re-Set Sunday was a great day. We not only shifted into a new season, giving in to the sad truth that summer is waning, but we also moved into our next chapter of adapting to living in pandemic times. We Re-Set with two significant steps. We taped the worship service in advance, on Thursday afternoon. This way members of the congregation can participate in worship without leaving their homes. They can at home record themselves lighting the Christ candle or reading Scripture and send it along to us and it will be placed into our worship service. If you’d like a chance to do either of these things, please just call the church and we’ll get it organized. And, we welcomed people into the building for a ‘Worship Watch Party’. There were about 20 people in the sanctuary Sunday morning, wearing masks and sitting the requisite 6 feet apart. Together we worshipped, watching the service on monitors in the building even as we knew others were at home worshipping on their computers. We sang muffled hymns into our masks and passed the peace with eye contact. As ministry staff our hearts were so warmed (and eyes a bit misty) as we were able to share space with some of ‘our’ people, and, hold space in our hearts for those who continue to be cautious at home. We will continue this practice of offering worship both online and in the sanctuary, although please be assured that we continue to monitor carefully the status of the pandemic and take necessary steps to ensure everyone’s health. Over the next few weeks in worship we will hear from guest speakers about how Lynn Valley United Church can be good neighbours. As well there are a number of activities starting up – including an already full house for Eat, Play, Love. Please go to the webpage to see what’s happening and sign up – there will be a second Eat, Play, Love to accommodate all who’d like to come – as well as several other opportunities to be together, even though we might be apart.
