A Worship Matters message from Rev. Donna Dinsmore for May 12's Sunday Service:

A warm welcome back to Rev. Karen. We are thrilled that you had such a good time in the Philippines with your family and your Dragon Boat Team and we are thrilled that you have returned! This Sunday, Rev. Karen and Rev. Donna will be co-leading. The Beatitudes from Matthew 5 are always a good place to prepare for worship. The two different translations provide much food for our minds and our hearts. Imagine being there on the mountainside as Jesus taught those closest to him. I wonder how you would respond personally and how the group responded. Can you imagine audible sighs or gasps---cheers or boos?

3  ‘Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4  Blessed are those who mourn,
    for they will be comforted.
5  Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
6  Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
    for they will be filled.
7  Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
8  Blessed are the pure in heart,
    for they will see God.
9  Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.  NIVUK

3  “You’re blessed when you’re at the end of your rope.
With less of you there is more of God and his rule.
4  “You’re blessed when you feel you’ve lost what is most dear to you.
Only then can you be embraced by the One most dear to you.
5  “You’re blessed when you’re content with just who you are—no more, no less.
That’s the moment you find yourselves proud owners of everything that can’t be bought.

6  “You’re blessed when you’ve worked up a good appetite for God.
He’s food and drink in the best meal you’ll ever eat.
7  “You’re blessed when you care. At the moment of being ‘care-full,’ you find yourselves cared
for.
8  “You’re blessed when you get your inside world—your mind and heart—put right.
Then you can see God in the outside world.
9  “You’re blessed when you can show people how to cooperate instead of compete or fight.
That’s when you discover who you really are, and your place in God’s family.   MSG

Our Sunday Services

Join us for Sunday service at Lynn Valley United Church! Every Sunday at 10:30am, LVUC opens its doors to welcome the entire community for the shared experience of worship. Young, old, single, families, gay, straight, bisexual, transgender, queer, two-spirit; there's a place for you here and all are truly welcome! At our church, all means all, regardless of society's labels or where you've journeyed previously.

We Gather

We're a community filled with friendly people. During each service, we take a few moments to greet one another and acknowledge their presence, a cherished practice referred to as 'passing the peace'.

We Sing

Music is a huge part of our Sunday service! You can join in and sing along (lyrics are featured on large screens throughout the space) or just sit back and enjoy.

We Listen

Every Sunday, there is a themed sermon (usually about 20 minutes long) which is designed to inspire and encourage you for your week ahead.

Live Stream on YouTube/Previously Recorded Services

Unable to make it in person? Each Sunday, you can watch our services live streamed on our YouTube channel or check out previously recorded sermons.
